What «not overlooked» means here, and what it does not

Nearly every Marrakech listing uses the phrase, usually without anyone checking. Here is the real situation at Dar Djinou.

The pool is set into the garden against the covered gallery, walled on all four sides. From the water you see no window, no balcony, no hotel terrace. That is what lets you swim without thinking about who is watching, and several guests have named it as the reason they booked.

Now the qualification. The village is still being built. Some neighbouring houses have an extra floor, and their roofs are used, as everywhere in Morocco, for drying laundry. Two guests noted it and they were right: from those roofs you can see the garden. Not the pool itself, which sits low against the wall, but the garden.

We would rather print both. If your test is swimming in peace without being watched, the house delivers. If your test is a garden invisible from anywhere outside, this is not it.

A small pool, and that is deliberate

Four metres by two is not a lap pool. Better to know that before booking than to find out on arrival. The size serves three specific purposes.

• Cooling off. Between June and September Marrakech regularly passes 38 degrees and peaks at 41 to 43. A pool this size is what makes a July afternoon survivable.
• Watching children. At 1.2 m throughout, a ten year old stands up. The whole pool sits in one glance from the covered gallery.
• Coming back from the souks. Fifteen minutes of road, then the water. The sequence repeats in review after review.

It is not heated. From November to March the water is genuinely cold, close to the night air temperature. A heated pool in Marrakech costs most operators 40 to 80 euros a day to run: here the option does not exist.

What surrounds it

A real lawn, watered, not gravel painted green. Palm trees. A covered gallery running the whole length of the front, with banquettes and a low table, holding shade from morning to night. An outside staircase climbs to the roof terrace.

One honest note, from a guest in February 2025: a sun lounger or two are missing by the water. Fair, and the kind of thing that gets fixed.

Maintenance, and the 2025 incident

A pool technician comes regularly. In August 2025, on a booking made the previous evening, he had not been told and let himself in while the house was occupied. He left immediately. It happened once, the host apologised, and the notice procedure changed. We leave it written here because the review is still online, and a site that scrubbed it would be worth nothing.

Do you need a private pool in Marrakech

No, if you are sleeping in the medina and out all day. Riads in the centre often have a cold, shaded courtyard pool that is enough to dip your feet in, and you are walking distance from the souks.

Yes, in three cases. If you come between June and September, when the heat forces an afternoon pause. If you travel with children, because a day of sightseeing does not hold together without a return to the water. If you come as a group and want somewhere of your own rather than a pool shared with fifteen other rooms.

In those three cases the trade is distance: ten kilometres, a car, fifteen minutes of road. That is the real decision, and it is better made before booking.
