The house
The house is built on one level around a garden. The three bedrooms, the sitting room, the dining room and the kitchen all open onto the covered gallery, which runs along the front of the house and holds shade all day.
The style is beldi chic: cream tadelakt on the walls, arches painted above the beds, reed and beam ceilings, Berber rugs, pottery and woven trays bought locally. Nothing came out of a catalogue.
An outside staircase climbs to the roof terrace. That is where you see the village, and where tea gets drunk at sunset.
The bedrooms
Three bedrooms, three queen beds, three shower rooms. Each one takes its name from the arch painted above the bed.
An arch painted straight onto the wall, sea green over cream tadelakt. The basin and the storage niches sit in the room itself, the shower behind the partition. This is the brightest room in the morning.
Deep blue on the wall, blue floor, framed black and white prints. Its shower room is closed off, with a chiselled mirror and niches built into the tadelakt.
A terracotta arch and a plum bedspread. Reed ceiling with exposed beams. Its shower room runs straight on from the bedroom, open niches and a tadelakt basin.
